Free and Clutter Free Easter Decorations

8 Easter Decorations That are Free and Clutter Free

Doesn’t it feel like you just got all of the Christmas glitter out of the rug? Like you just wrestled down the tree and stashed away the ornaments, nativity scene, candles, wreaths, boxes, and bows? Like your bank account is still recovering from all of your holiday spending?

I have news for you. The next major holiday is upon us. Easter. What a perfect time for a fresh start. For a rebirth of how you approach your holiday decor.

Decorating your home for different holidays can be gratifying. It can serve as a creative outlet. It’s fun to do with the kids and rewarding to do when you entertain often.

However, seasonal decorating almost always creates clutter. Clutter that needs to be stored away for the next 11 months until you bring it out again (or replace it with new decorations you’ll surely buy once Target and Michaels mark down their decorations to 75-90% off).

Remember, you have to store every piece of decor you bring into your home. You eventually have to throw out every piece of decor you bring into your home.

Let’s save time, save money, create less waste, and give your home more room to breathe by being intentional and creative about the decorations you choose this year. Below are 8 ways to decorate for Easter that are free (or cheap), clutter free, and convenient!

1. Use carrots as decor.

Carrots are free decor in that you probably already have them at home and can cook with them after Easter is over. Any type will work, but if you want a fancier look, choose ones with the greens still attached. Get out a glass vase, mason jar, or other see through container and plop them in! Such a low effort option, and it looks really cute and classy!

2.Decorate with flowers.

This one isn’t free, but it’s clutter free. Pick up some fresh flowers to display for the week leading up to Easter. Display one large bouquet or split them up into a few smaller bunches. Spring flowers are beautiful and go perfectly with an Easter theme.

3. Decorate with Easter candy.

Most holidays get turned into an excuse for Nestle and Hershey’s to make bank. Easter is no different. Jelly beans, Peeps, chocolate bunnies, Cadbury eggs. They’re all yummy (well, Peeps are debatable). They can also make colorful, cute, consumable decor. Arrange them on some easter grass, stick them in a jar, prop them up on a pedestal. The options are endless. Just watch the kids and make sure they don’t sneak them early when you aren’t looking!

4.Use kids’ stuffed animals.

Your mileage may vary with this one. Don’t go out and purchase a stuffed animal. That would be against the nature of this post. However, if your children have any stuffed animal chicks or bunnies, ask if you can give them a place of honor as you decorate for the holiday. You know…like ‘Elf on a Shelf’ for Easter. Too soon? Still traumatized by the stress of Elf on a Shelf? Sorry. The chicks and bunnies don’t need to move though!

5.Make Easter bunny napkins.

If you already own cloth napkins, this is a free decor element. Now, I can in no way instruct you on how to make these, but I’ll leave the photo and link here for you. These would look great on a plate/tablescape, but you could also make one or two and scatter them randomly as you decorate. When Easter has passed, just give them a wash, fold them back up, and use them at your next sit down meal.

6.Display Easter themed books.

You know what you can find in pretty much any theme/topic you can imagine? Books. Sift through your children’s books to see if there are any pretty and displayable covers related to Easter, bunnies, chicks, flowers, or Spring.

Don’t have any that work? Head to your local library. You’ll have a bigger selection, and a standard checkout period will be the perfect amount of time to use the books as decoration and return them before a renewal is necessary.

7.Decorate with nature.

Easter is associated with Spring. Run with that and pull from nature for your decorations. Go out and explore to find branches to decorate and display. Pick or buy flowers (#2 from above). Grow your own grass as centerpieces (instructions here). This takes 7-10 days to complete, so you’ll need to start it early, but it’s cheap, apparently pretty easy, and a great eco-friendly option. It would also be a great activity to do with the kids.

8.Round up religious decor.

If you already have crosses, photos or figurines of Jesus, or framed bible passages/quotes, collect them from other rooms in your home and add them to your Easter display. Combining them with flowers and other natural elements will make for beautiful, meaningful, holiday appropriate decor.

So there you have it.

Whether you’re hosting an egg hunt, entertaining family and friends for Easter brunch, or just like to make your home more festive for the holiday, there are no cost, clutter free options available. Shop your home, find inspiration in nature, and get creative. Resist the urge to go on a shopping spree and bring more belongings into your home. You don’t need to spend lots of time and money to achieve a fresh, beautiful Easter look!

Keep it simple and try a few of the ideas above. It’ll likely take 30 minutes or less. Then sit back, relax, and spend your time actually enjoying the Easter season. (Instead of scouring Hobby Lobby for the 5th time this week or bribing your husband to get the Easter tote bin(s) down from the attic or out of the garage).

Suggested Action Item:

If you still have some Easter decorating to do, take 5 minutes to shop your home for items that you can use. Look for books, stuffed animals, vases, jars, candy, and natural elements mentioned above. Have some fun and create a pretty display on your table, mantle or entryway table!
